tzarina
Imperial Russian sovereign
A tzarina is the wife of a tzar, the emperor of Russia, or a woman ruling as empress in her own right.
Catherine the Great was Russia's most famous tzarina.
The word follows the same pattern as czarina, with both spellings reflecting different transliterations from Russian.
Figuratively, a tzarina is a woman wielding absolute authority in some domain: She was the tzarina of the fashion department.
