Creating raised clusters
Tufting is a textile technique where yarn or thread is pushed through a backing fabric to create loops or cut pile, producing textured surfaces like rugs, carpets, and upholstery.
The process can be done by hand with a tufting gun or industrially.
Tufting also describes decorative buttons or stitches that create the dimpled pattern on mattresses and upholstered furniture: The tufting on the headboard gave it a classic look.
