calendering

Press for glossiness

Calendering is the process of pressing material between heavy rollers to smooth, glaze, or thin it.

Paper and textiles are calendered to produce a polished finish: The calendering gave the fabric its characteristic sheen.

In manufacturing, calendering also forms plastic or rubber into sheets of uniform thickness.
