trijet

Plane, three engines

A trijet is an aircraft powered by three jet engines, typically with one mounted in the tail and two on the wings or fuselage.

The configuration was popular for commercial airliners from the 1960s through the 1990s, offering range and power between twin-engine and four-engine designs: The DC-10 and L-1011 were the dominant trijets of their era.
