tridents

Three-tined fishing weapons

Tridents are three-pronged spears, most famously associated with Poseidon (or Neptune), the god of the sea.

The shape appears in heraldry, logos, and as a weapon in gladiatorial combat.

Modern tridents are used for spearfishing.

The word comes from Latin for "three teeth." The statue depicted Neptune holding his trident.
