transitioning

Moving between phases

Transitioning is the process of moving from one state or condition to another.

The word often appears in discussions of gender transition, where a person takes steps—social, medical, or legal—to live as a different gender than the one assigned at birth: She began transitioning in her thirties.

More broadly, transitioning describes any gradual shift: The company is transitioning to remote work.
