toe kick

Under-cabinet foot space

A toe kick is the recessed space at the bottom of a base cabinet, allowing someone to stand close to the counter without stubbing their toes.

Standard toe kicks are about four inches high and three inches deep.

The term also refers to the board that covers this recess: We need to replace the toe kick under the kitchen sink.
