tidal currents
Moon-driven waters
Tidal currents are the horizontal movement of water caused by the rise and fall of tides.
Unlike waves, which move water up and down, tidal currents flow directionally—toward shore during flood tide, away during ebb tide.
They're strongest in narrow channels and coastal areas: The tidal currents made navigating the inlet tricky.
Sailors and kayakers must account for them when planning routes.
