ticker tape parade
Hero's welcome march
A ticker tape parade is a celebratory procession through city streets, traditionally featuring shredded paper thrown from buildings onto the honorees below.
The name comes from the narrow paper strips once produced by stock ticker machines, which office workers would toss from windows.
New York City's Canyon of Heroes on Broadway is the most famous venue.
These parades honor returning war heroes, championship sports teams, astronauts, and other figures of public triumph: The team got a ticker tape parade after winning the World Series.
