sympathy strike
Supporting workers' protest
A sympathy strike is a work stoppage by employees who have no direct dispute with their own employer, conducted to support workers striking elsewhere.
The goal is to apply economic pressure by disrupting related businesses or supply chains: The dockworkers launched a sympathy strike to support the truckers' demands.
Also called a solidarity strike.
