sympathizer

One who commiserates

A sympathizer supports or agrees with a cause, group, or belief, often without being a formal member.

The term frequently carries political weight, suggesting someone who shares the views of a controversial movement: Nazi sympathizers, communist sympathizers.

While it can be neutral—I'm a sympathizer with the labor movement—it often implies suspicion or accusation, as if the person's allegiance is hidden or questionable.

The British spelling is sympathiser.
