swather

Cuts and rows

A swather is a farm machine that cuts grain or hay and lays it in rows called swaths for drying before harvest.

Also called a windrower.

The term can also mean a person who cuts swaths, though the machine sense dominates: The swather moved steadily across the wheat field.
