swathing

Enveloping in layers

Swathing is the act of wrapping something in layers of cloth or bandages, or more broadly, enveloping anything completely: swathing the baby in blankets, mist swathing the valley.

In agriculture, swathing means cutting grain or hay and leaving it in rows (swaths) to dry before collection.
