submarining

Descending below surface

Submarining has two main senses.

In dating, it describes when someone who ghosted you suddenly resurfaces without explanation, like a submarine emerging from the depths: He submarined me after three months of silence.

In driving, submarining is when a passenger slides forward under the seatbelt during a collision, a dangerous positioning that lap belts are designed to prevent.
