stria

Fine linear channel

A stria is a narrow groove, stripe, or band, especially one of several parallel lines.

The term appears most often in scientific contexts—anatomy, geology, biology—describing linear markings on surfaces: striae on a muscle fiber, glacial striae carved into bedrock.

In medicine, striae are stretch marks on skin.

Plural: striae.
