passage hawk
Migrating falcon trapped
A passage hawk is a hawk captured during its first migration, after leaving the nest but before reaching full maturity.
Falconers prize passage hawks because they've learned to hunt in the wild but are still young enough to train.
The term distinguishes them from birds taken from the nest (eyasses) or caught as adults (haggards).
