stoop sitting
Steps socializing outdoors
Stoop sitting is the practice of spending leisure time seated on the front steps of a building, especially in urban neighborhoods where stoops serve as informal gathering spots.
Common in cities like New York, stoop sitting blends relaxation with people-watching and socializing: We spent the whole summer stoop sitting and talking to neighbors.
The activity carries nostalgic associations with close-knit neighborhood life.
