static stretching
Sustained muscle lengthening
Static stretching is holding a muscle in a lengthened position for an extended period, typically fifteen to sixty seconds.
Unlike dynamic stretching, which involves movement, static stretches are performed while stationary: Hold each static stretch for thirty seconds.
Once standard pre-exercise practice, static stretching is now generally recommended for after workouts, as research suggests it may temporarily reduce power and performance when done beforehand.
