stat
Scoreboard figure, briefly
Stat is medical and hospital slang for immediately or urgently, from the Latin *statim*: We need a crash cart, stat!
The word signals that delay could cost a life.
Outside medicine, stat adds dramatic urgency, often humorously: I need coffee, stat.
A stat is also a statistic, especially in sports: career stats, stat sheet.
