spinning rod

Angler's casting tool

A spinning rod is a type of fishing rod designed for use with a spinning reel, which mounts below the rod rather than on top.

The guides are larger and face downward to accommodate the wide loops of line that spiral off the reel during casting.

Spinning rods are popular with beginners and versatile for many fishing styles: I grabbed my spinning rod and headed to the lake.
