ice fishing rod
Short winter tackle
A short fishing rod designed for use through holes drilled in frozen lakes or rivers.
Ice fishing rods are typically two to three feet long—much shorter than standard rods—to allow anglers to fish while seated near the ice hole.
They're often paired with small reels and sensitive tips to detect subtle bites in cold water: He rigged his ice fishing rod with a tiny jig for perch.
