pressure sores
Immobility skin damage
Pressure sores are injuries to skin and underlying tissue caused by prolonged pressure, typically from lying or sitting in one position too long.
They develop where bone presses against a surface—heels, tailbone, hips—cutting off blood flow.
Also called bedsores or decubitus ulcers, they range from mild redness to deep wounds exposing muscle or bone: The nursing home was cited for failing to prevent pressure sores in bedridden patients.
