speedways

Tracks for racing

Speedways are racetracks designed for high-speed motor racing, typically oval-shaped with banked curves: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts the Indy 500.

The term also applies to roads built for fast traffic, essentially synonymous with expressway or highway in some regions.

In speedway racing, specifically, motorcycles without brakes compete on dirt or shale tracks.
