A dogleg is a sharp bend or angle, like the crook of a dog's hind leg.

The word appears most often in golf, where a dogleg is a hole that bends left or right between tee and green: The seventh is a dogleg left around the pond.

Roads, pipes, and hallways can also dogleg.

As a verb: The trail doglegs through the woods before reaching the summit.
