snow guard
Avalanche prevention strip
Snow guard is a device installed on a roof to prevent accumulated snow and ice from sliding off in dangerous sheets.
Typically metal or plastic brackets arranged in rows, snow guards break up snowpack so it melts or falls gradually rather than avalanching onto walkways, vehicles, or people below: The contractor recommended snow guards for the metal roof over the entrance.
