duck dive
Surfer's underwater maneuver
A duck dive is a technique used by surfers and bodyboarders to push themselves and their board underwater to pass beneath an oncoming wave rather than being knocked back by it.
The maneuver mimics how ducks submerge headfirst when diving for food.
Timing and body positioning are critical—you push down on the nose of the board while driving your knee or foot into the tail to angle the board under the wave's force.
