aqualungs
Underwater breathing apparatus
Aqualungs are portable breathing devices that allow divers to stay underwater for extended periods.
The apparatus consists of compressed air tanks worn on the back connected to a mouthpiece, freeing divers from surface air hoses.
The term comes from the brand name Aqua-Lung, an early version developed in the 1940s: We strapped on our aqualungs and descended to the reef.
