smoke alarm
Fire warning device
A smoke alarm is a device that detects smoke and sounds a loud warning, typically mounted on ceilings in homes and buildings.
The terms smoke alarm and smoke detector are used interchangeably in everyday speech, though technically the detector is the sensing component while the alarm includes the audible warning.
