Molotov cocktail
Improvised incendiary weapon
A Molotov cocktail is a crude incendiary weapon made from a bottle filled with flammable liquid, typically gasoline, with a cloth wick stuffed in the neck.
The wick is lit and the bottle thrown; it shatters on impact, spreading burning fuel.
Named mockingly after Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov during the 1939 Winter War, it became a symbol of improvised resistance: Protesters hurled Molotov cocktails at police lines.
