heat detector

Warmth-sensing alarm device

A heat detector is a fire alarm device that responds to temperature rather than smoke.

Unlike smoke detectors, heat detectors activate when ambient temperature rises above a threshold or increases rapidly.

They're used in kitchens, garages, and other spaces where smoke detectors would trigger false alarms: The heat detector in the boiler room finally went off.
