short waves

Small ocean undulations

Short waves are radio waves with wavelengths roughly between 10 and 100 meters, used for long-distance broadcasting because they reflect off the ionosphere.

Before satellite communication, shortwave radio was how people heard news from distant countries: We listened to the BBC on short wave.
