amplitude modulation
Carrier wave variation
Amplitude modulation is a method of encoding information in a radio wave by varying the strength (amplitude) of the signal while keeping the frequency constant.
AM radio broadcasts use this technique: The station broadcasts on AM.
Compare to frequency modulation (FM), which varies the frequency instead.
