fadeout

Scene's slow disappearance

A fadeout is a gradual decrease in visibility or volume until something disappears entirely.

In film and video, the image dims to black; in audio, sound diminishes to silence.

The term extends to any gradual withdrawal or ending: His fadeout from public life was so slow that nobody noticed when he was finally gone.

Also spelled fade-out or fade out.
