mediumwave

AM radio frequencies

Mediumwave is a band of radio frequencies used for AM broadcasting, typically between 520 and 1710 kilohertz.

The term is more common in British English than American, where AM radio suffices.

Mediumwave signals travel farther at night, which is why distant stations fade in after dark.

Also written as two words or hyphenated: medium wave, medium-wave.
