self-deification
Claiming divine status
Self-deification is the act of elevating oneself to godlike status, either literally claiming divine nature or figuratively placing oneself above ordinary human limitations and judgment.
The term appears in discussions of narcissism, cult leaders, and historical figures who demanded worship: The emperor's self-deification required temples built in his honor.
It can describe more subtle forms of grandiosity—treating one's own desires as sacred or one's opinions as infallible.
