morning star
Predawn celestial beacon
A morning star is a bright planet, usually Venus, visible in the eastern sky just before sunrise.
The term has been used poetically for centuries to describe celestial bodies that herald the dawn.
Morning star also names a medieval weapon—a spiked metal ball on a chain or shaft, swung to crush armor.
Venus hung low as the morning star. (Capitalized Morning Star has religious and symbolic meanings.)
