An ego-trip is an activity pursued mainly to boost one's sense of importance or superiority.
The term implies self-indulgence disguised as something more legitimate: His charity work was really just an ego-trip.
As a verb, to ego-trip is to engage in such behavior: She's ego-tripping if she thinks we'll all wait for her.
