seacock

Boat water shutoff

A seacock is a valve in a boat's hull that controls the flow of water into or out of the vessel.

Opening a seacock allows seawater in for engine cooling or other systems; closing it prevents flooding.

A failed or open seacock can sink a boat: Check all seacocks before leaving the dock.
