A kingsman is a soldier or subject loyal to a king, particularly one serving in the king's forces during civil conflicts or monarchist causes.
The term distinguishes royalist fighters from rebels or republicans: The kingsmen held the castle against parliamentary forces.
In British military tradition, Kingsman is also a formal rank title in certain regiments, equivalent to private.
