roller derby

Skating contact sport

Roller derby is a contact sport played on roller skates, where two teams race around an oval track while blockers try to impede the opposing team's scorer (the jammer).

The sport emerged in the 1930s as theatrical entertainment, declined, then was revived in the early 2000s as a grassroots, often women-dominated athletic competition: She joined the local roller derby league.
