fouling out
Too many infractions
Fouling out is being disqualified from a basketball game for accumulating too many personal fouls—five in college, six in the NBA.
A player who fouls out must leave the court and cannot return: He fouled out with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The term occasionally extends to other sports or figuratively to any disqualification through repeated violations.
