roadie

Amp-hauling crew member

A roadie is a member of a rock band's crew who handles equipment during tours—setting up instruments, managing sound systems, loading trucks.

The work is physically demanding and largely invisible to audiences.

The term derives from being on the road with musicians.

By extension, roadie can describe anyone who does behind-the-scenes support work: I'm basically her roadie for these conferences.
