Verdi

Nineteenth-century opera giant

Giuseppe Verdi was an Italian composer of the nineteenth century, among the most celebrated in opera history.

His works—*Rigoletto*, *La Traviata*, *Aida*, *Otello*—remain cornerstones of the operatic repertoire.

During Italian unification, his name became an acronym for "Vittorio Emanuele Re D'Italia," making him a nationalist symbol.

We're seeing Verdi at the Met tonight.
