threnody
Poem for dead
A threnody is a song or poem of mourning, typically composed for the dead.
The word is literary and formal, appearing more often in discussions of classical music and ancient Greek tradition than in everyday speech: The composer wrote a threnody for the victims of the disaster.
By extension, any mournful expression may be called a threnody.
