valediction

Formal goodbye speech

Valediction is the act of saying farewell, or the words used in doing so.

It appears most often in formal contexts: the closing of a letter (Sincerely yours is a common valediction), or a farewell speech.

A valedictory address is given at graduation ceremonies, typically by the top-ranked student—the valedictorian.
