redlegs

Field artillery soldiers

Redlegs has several distinct uses.

It refers to a poor white person in the Caribbean, especially Barbados—descendants of indentured servants and deportees from the British Isles, so called for their sunburned legs.

In U.S. military slang, redlegs are artillery soldiers, from the red stripe historically worn on their uniform trousers.

Redlegs is also a nickname for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.
