infantrymen
Soldiers on foot
Infantrymen is the plural of infantryman—soldiers who fight on foot rather than on horseback, in vehicles, or from aircraft.
Infantry has historically formed the backbone of armies, with infantrymen doing most of the ground-level fighting: The infantrymen advanced under heavy fire.
The term distinguishes foot soldiers from cavalry, artillery, and other specialized units.
