diluting
Reducing the concentration
Diluting is making something weaker or less concentrated by adding another substance, typically water or another liquid: diluting the juice with water, diluting the paint to the right consistency.
The term extends to weakening anything: diluting someone's influence, diluting the impact of a message, diluting a brand by overextension.
