Nondestructive editing shield
A layer mask in image editing software controls which parts of a layer are visible or hidden without permanently deleting pixels.
White areas of the mask reveal the layer, black areas conceal it, and gray areas create partial transparency.
This non-destructive technique allows precise blending and compositing: I used a layer mask to fade the sky into the background.
