viscose

Regenerated wood textile

Viscose is a semi-synthetic fiber made from regenerated cellulose, typically derived from wood pulp.

The manufacturing process produces a viscous solution—hence the name—that's extruded into threads.

Viscose fabric is soft, breathable, and drapes well, making it popular for clothing: a viscose blouse, viscose lining.

Also called rayon, though rayon is the broader category.
